Tracker List Report (November 25, 2015) [Working]

All tracker lists presented below are in a tracker-tier format, with UDP trackers given preference. Please check the FAQ for information regarding UDP trackers and the tracker-tier format. Also consider consulting the Glossary for any unfamiliar terminology.

Open Tracker Project Trackers (10):

These trackers use opentracker software, and belong to a fellowship of trackers that follow the same rules and philosophy for operating public BitTorrent trackers. Trackers from this grouping typically have the most seeders per tracker.
These are blind open public trackers; which means that these trackers are free for anyone to use. You don't need to register, upload, or add a torrent manually to any index tracking website. All you have to do is to include these tracker URLs in your torrent.

Duplicate Trackers (35):

These are tracker hostnames that use the same IP addresses of other known tracker hostnames. These trackers should avoided, as they will cause unnecessary duplicate connections to a tracker.
If you have any of these trackers in your own tracker lists, check to see if you have the original/core hostname already listed. If you do, please remove the duplicates.

  1. Suggestion: Some indicator of which trackers are new to your list would be cool. Like a * or something or maybe even have them in alphabetical order. uTorrent tends to organize them alphabetical and I try to as well bc of that. Makes it easier to find a tracker to remove or to see if its even on ones list to begin with.
    Just a thought.

    1. I meant to mention specifically, that I am looking into performing a diff between versions of the reports.

    2. Its a good suggestion, and I appreciate you mentioning it. I have been fighting with ways of presenting this information for months leading up to me going live with this subreddit, and I welcome any and all criticism and ideas to anything presented here.
Let me explain some of the details of what is being presented here, and please give me your thoughts after. The lists are almost entirely in an alphabetical order. There are (3) major lists that I break-out here:
Open Tracker Project trackers (blind/open to any use)
Open trackers (all others that are blind/open to any use that do not fall into the category of Open Tracker Project trackers)
Closed trackers (require a torrent index upload)
Each of these lists is listed alphabetical by domain name, and then hostname for that domain. As an example:
      udp://tracker.blackunicorn.xyz:6969/announce

      udp://castradio.net:6969/announce
      http://castradio.net:6969/announce

      udp://tracker.coppersurfer.tk:6969/announce
      http://tracker.coppersurfer.tk:6969/announce
      udp://coppersurfer.tk:6969/announce
      http://coppersurfer.tk:6969/announce
These are in alphabetical order by domain name. "tracker." is the hostname. blackunicorn.xyz, castradio.net, coppersurfer.tk are the alphabetically listed domain names. I sort by domain name, because its the only sane way to track multiple hostnames that belong to the same domain. If sorted by hostnames, the domains would be completely out of order and difficult to sort/filter duplicate and other issues for.
The only trackers that are outside of this order are the infohash.org trackers, and the trackers listed by IP address. These are intentionally listed last, because infohash.org trackers mostly point to other well-known trackers (and would be dupes). The IP address-based trackers are a real pain in the ass, and I throw them to the end until I can figure out something better to do with them.
Like the stats report show at the top of each post, there are 100+ unique tracker hostnames, and over 400+ tracker URLs when you account for http, udp, and the various listening port combinations. Keeping track of "whats new" is tedious, and hard to present in these reports in a way that isn't confusing or otherwise making a very busy looking report even more messy. I can totally understand wanting to easily see whats different from report to report, but I'm not sure how to integrate that information in a meaningful way.
These reports are already pushing the limit for the size of reddit posts, and I may have to start reducing the information presented or possibly break the report up into multiple posts.
For the most part, the information doesn't change much week-to-week. Its much more likely that a tracker gets shut-down (particularly how trackers are stopping http access), than anything new being added (new trackers not already in the database are more of a monthly+ event). When I find out about a new tracker, I do two things: I add it to the database/list, and I manually test/verify if its an open tracker or closed tracker.
I'm not sure if I can make anything that shows a "diff" between reports. That might be outside my realm of scripting/tools available. But, I'm certainly open to ideas and I appreciate your feedback!
